Can only see (list) files from remote site

using Nvu .5 I can connect to my ISP site, the files are listed, but can 
not get/put files, rename files, move files, etc. every error is 500 or 
550: No such file or directory.
WS_FTP connects and allows me to get/put/delete/copy/rename. etc..

How can i get Nvu to do allow me to do what ws_ftp allows..
same username/password/site...
running XP SP2
