(sorry for the late reply - jud just pointed me at this)

the appcomps dll is required for the nifty tree-based ftp view.. 
however, you can have necko generate an html-based directory view (like 
Navigator 4.x) by setting a pref. I think that it's 
"network.dir.generate_html"
