Thanks for your help. I forgot to say that I used the prefs.js file out of \WINNT\Profiles\...me...\Anwendungsdaten\Mozilla\Profiles\...me...\????????.slt\ to copy some necessary proxy settings (lines) to a new file called user.js in subdir \WINNT\Profiles\...me...\Anwendungsdaten\MozillaControl\profiles\MozillaControl\??????.slt This subdirectory I identified to belong to my control. From there my control reads user.js but it ignores the settings. Any further comments are wellcome.
