You can't access the profile through the control. You should do bookmarks in your own app's folder.
You can change global prefs for the control by modifying the *.js files in the control's greprefs folder. To get the base install folder read the registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1339B54C-3453-11D2-93B9-000000000000}\InprocServer32
