Wow. It's not often that we get such a thorough first-hand account from
a mind irreparably addled by BASIC. What a sad, unfortunate thing.

Tog should stick to UI design, which he knows well. While I can agree
with the him that the binding between HTML and JavaScript is a filthy
hack, it seems like real gripe is that he likes BASIC and its ilk better
than more rigorously structured languages, and laments the fact that
they cannot be used on the Web in a cross-platform way. I am pretty 
unsympathetic on this point. I don't think you have to be a
"professional" to understand these (slightly) more rigorously structured
languages, and I think these languages add substantial value in terms of
maintainability that even casual programmers can appreciate over time.
