I've come accross several webpages that need a plugin of some sort

see:
http://lxr.mozilla.org/mozilla/source/modules/plugin/test/SimpleTest.html

They usually say: click here after installing plugin and a window
pops up for the netscape plugin: Get Plugin button. After clicking
the button, a netscape site appears saying: "Here are 0 matching
plugin(2) found"

see:
http://cgi.netscape.com/cgi-bin/plug-in_finder.cgi?application/x-simple

The first site above tries to explain what may be wrong, but I
don't know what to do. I've checked all the suggestions on that
page (see bullet points and my responses below):

1. For Windows, the class file should be in the Plug-in folder
along side the DLL

- I don't know what a class file is or where to get it.

2. make sure that Java isn't disabled

- Java and javascript are both enabled

3. This is most likely because the Plug-in file isn't installed in
the plug-in directory. Also check that the list of helpers
contains an entry for type application/x-simple-plugin that names
the Simple LiveConnect Sample Plug-in.

- I don't know how to install the plugin into the right directory
and the helper application window (file types) in preferences is
empty. I don't know how to add entries there at all.

Could someone please explain how plugins are installed in mozilla.
This is all very confusing (not userfriendly)
