Are you by chance doing this under Linux? I don't know about other
platforms, but I don't think the Linux RealPlayer plugin will work
with Mozilla. Instead, you have to use the actual application as a
helper app, which is likely (in the case of Linux):
/usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay
That will work on some sites that don't require it to be a plugin. But
I have had no luck with sites that do require the plugin.
