Yes, a feature. It seems Mozilla uses the Nav 4.* as the gopher client,
similarly to its use of the Windows Telnet client if you type telnet://
Try a real working Gopher link to check it, like:
gopher://quux.org:70/11/Archives/mirrors/boombox.micro.umn.edu/pub/gopher/gopher_protocol
The gopher protocol is covered by bug 49334
(http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49334)
But I cannot find there anything about using Nescscape 4.* as the helper
application for gopher.
