Buddy, speak for yourself. Europe is a large area and not everyone here
pays by the minute and not everyone runs a 33.6 modem. I, for instance,
live in Finland and connect to the net with a 2Mbps DSL line. Most of
my friends have either cable or DSL or at least ISDN lines and pay a 
flat connection fee. Hell, even when I connect with my cellular phone
using my Compaq iPAQ PDA, the speed is faster than 33.6! (HSCSD at over
40kbps)

This is not to say that your point about a Java-less distribution would
not be valid. Many people already have a Java VM or don't care about 
having one so forcing people to download it makes no sense. The same is
true for Macromedia Flash, Shockwave and a lot of other stuff that is
included in the Netscape 6 distribution (of course that's not Mozilla's
fault).
