Thinking back to the 0.8 release , the "release" date is a bit of a
best-case-scenario.

The usual schedule for a milestone release is :

1) Wednesday : Freeze the trunk
2) Friday : Branch the milestone from the trunk
3) Weekend : Test that puppy!
4) Monday : release.

For 0.8.1, these correspond to (1) 14th, (2) 16th, (3) 17-18th, and
(4) 19th of March, respectively.

For 0.8, these dates were (1) 7th, (2) 9th, (3) 10-11th and
(4) 12th of March.

So 0.8 was due to release on 12th Feb. It didn't actually hit the FTP
servers until 14th Feb. Hey, 2 days late isn't too bad for the
software development world.

I believe that there was some excitement last week involving the win32
build machines, which may have complicated the schedule a bit, but the
branch did happen more-or-less on schedule as far as I can tell, so I
expect that the 0.8.1 release is imminent.
