I hear what you say; I just continue to make the point that Mozilla could
work like this, and there's nothing to prevent you from making it do so if
you choose. You won't even have to compile anything.

Install Mozilla, choosing "Navigator and Mail/News only". Run Mozilla.
Have a play around. Then do "File | Open | chatzilla.xpi" (you can get
this as a standalone file from the Mozilla ftp server.)
