The only differences I see are the header bar and the
quotation bars, and Netscape 4.x had the quotation
bars (it just restricted them to HTML mail). Other than
that, it's pretty much the same. What besides those two
features is different? Specifically, with the Classic theme,
what is different?

Actually, yes, if somebody can tolerate it then that means it can
be tolerated (tolerable == can be tolerated). Now, that doesn't
mean that it's tolerable *for you*...

(semantics is fun! ;)

They actually make a lot of sense when reading messages sent
in text/plain;format=flowed, because it prevents reflow
quote-damage. And they're not *that* different from a
line of ">", it just takes some getting used to.

There is a (hidden) pref to show all text/plain messages
without format=flowed with the ">" instead of the bars.
For flowed messages, you're stuck with the bars. Bug #88986
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88986
is about an option to use ">" instead of bars with
format=flowed, but it'll require an extention to CSS.

Maybe it should be listed as "Mail and News" under the
Tasks menu?
