I'm using mozilla 0.9.2 on mac os X; I'm not sure if this is an os X
specific problem, but I suspect not. I'm a student at UC Berkeley; to
access online resources like encyclopedias, journal databases, etc.,
from my non-campus ISP I use the campus proxy service which requires
automatic proxy configuration. I was excited to see the automatic proxy
config field in the mozilla preferences; but when I tried to get it to
work I couldn't. When I hit the reload button in the prefs dialog
nothing happened, and I saw no network traffic. So the app wasn't doing
anything. And when I quit the program with the proxy config url saved
and try to start up mozilla again before anything loads I get an
"application unexpectedly quit" error.
Does anyone know if this feature is missing from mozilla, or broken,
or if there are any plans to support it in the future? At the present
time I have to start up netscape 4.76 in classic or os 9.1 to get
automatic proxy config support and do research, which is a bit of a
pain. Thanks.
