On a current build? No, I don't see this, even on a very slow machine. 
If you're on 0.9.2, I'd expect to see this behavior on a machine whose 
CPU speed to network speed ratio was low, or on any machine when you hit 
"back" to return to a large page.

This is the old problem of Gecko being plenty fast, but too much of it 
not being interruptible. Try a build from July and see if it goes away, 
unless you're already using a July build.
