I was reading through a bugzilla post (http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32218) and suddenly realized that Mozilla 1.0 is being blocked to be released until this bug is resolved (which is currently being blocked and depened on bug http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28028) Bug 32218 is addressing that mozilla needs a new splash screen to represent itself and is being desputed over because the Red Dino (which I believe is falsly being named mozilla) is a registered trademark and cannot be released because of the MPL. And also, the current splash screen (the true GREEN lizard named mozilla) is a bug as it is a registered trademark of Netscape. This bug is still opened and being blocked by Bug 28028 which sounds like they are having a licensing battle to have a Red Dino. Not only is this all really being contractions of eachother, but neither bug has been actively used (A few months have gone by with out comments on progress.) And according to these bugs, Mozilla 1.0 cannot be officially be released unless these disputes are resolved or dissolved. Has the mozilla staff forgotten about all of this? Personally, I think Netscape should change the rights of Mozilla (The GREEN lizard) so that Mozilla (mozilla.org) can use that image for release on their browser package. My reasons are the following: 1) Mozilla (the lizard) is what I have always known to be. Not the red dino that mozilla.org is trying to create. Mozilla was there as stuff dolls that you have store at home. Hell, it was Microsoft's "lets show netscape that they suck and are too late because we released IE 4" defacion when the Netscape employees noticed them dropping the Internet Explorer "e" logo on their front lawn as well having Mozilla standing over it saying, "WE ARE NOT GOING TO QUIT THAT EASILY!" 2) Netscape isn't doing themselves justice TAKING (in my opion) mozilla's work, putting some of their corperate software on it and re-releasing it as NETSCAPE brand without having any information about mozilla on their splash and pretty much within their browser. Yes, they created the project, put apparently mozilla doesn't want the Netscape branding. Which means it should act like a separate company and that Netscape should give Mozilla frontline credit for their work. Maybe releasing their (Netscape) Mozilla for Mozilla's (.org) accomplishments. Netscape should give mozilla credit for their accomplishments, and themselves credit for doing such a risky move. Now I know people are going to post, flame me for what I have said. But let me say this. If Netscape really wants Mozilla (.org) browsing suite, not only should they put their information on it, but also the information about mozilla.org (webpage) somewhere so people can see for themselves that this is not only their accomplishment, but the worlds dedicators accomplishment as well! And Mozilla (.org) should have something taking credit for Netscape saying that this browser would not have been created without the great thinking of Netscape to create an open source browser (even though must of us do) as, possibly, the very minimum few might download this browser and not know what the history of it is about. Flame me if you must, but I say they should start giving eachother credit and not be separate. Because I cannot see where they are giving eachother credit when I use both of their browsers! Once this happens, Mozilla (.org) can have Mozilla (lizard), and then there wont be a stopper bug (in my view.)
