One word for you Cher:  Proxomitron (http://spywaresucks.org/prox/). 
Blocks virtually every fricken ad, including those uberannoying
Javascript popups (and yet leaves most of the ones you want alone). 
Completely and utterly configurable; if Proxomitron can't be tweaked to
block it, it can't *be* blocked.  And yet it comes configured with very
good defaults.

Now I have *not* yet checked if it works well with Mozilla, but I can
tell you it works exquisitely with IE and NC4.7x, and I will not browse
the web without it.
