I'm not a developer, so this is just my opinion. I like having the
mail, news, and browser together. Often I get mail with html links in
it that i'd like to check out. Some newsgroups have URL's too
sometimes. Some of the other email clients I find not so easy to
understand or they aren't GUI clients, and I know of very few of them
that you can click on a link and start a browser. I'm using Linux by
the way. Yes there are other programs for various functions, like XMMS
to play MP3 files for example, that don't neccessarily have to be
integrated with the browser, but some of them, like XMMS, can be made to
work from the browser if you want them to. Linux does have many email
clients, newsreaders, and even other browsers to choose from, but I like
having one program that handles most of what I do on the internet each
day.
