Bugzilla has seen an amazing volume of activity in recent months, and the active developer community handling it has been growing along with it. Bugzilla by itself gets more bugs on bugzilla.mozilla.org than the rest of the Webtools product combined. As I write this, the Bugzilla component in the Webtools product has 643 open bug reports. The rest of Webtools combined has 174 open bug reports. With this growth, it's become readily apparent that Bugzilla needs it's own product-space within bugzilla.mozilla.org to handle this volume, so that the bugs can be spread around to different owners based on the portion of Bugzilla that they deal with. We have tentatively scheduled this product changeover to coincide with the release of Bugzilla 2.14 approximately one week from now, barring any problems. (See the additional announcement posted to netscape.public.mozilla.webtools tonight for the release schedule). This means when you file bugs against Bugzilla, instead of looking for Webtools and then selecting Bugzilla as the component, you will pick Bugzilla (almost right at the top of the list!) and then pick the appropriate component within Bugzilla. The proposed component structure for the Bugzilla product can be viewed at: <http://www.syndicomm.com/~justdave/bzproduct.html> It mostly boils down to this: Component Name Default Owner Administration Dave Miller all the edit*.cgi files Bugzilla-General Dave Miller anything not covered in another component Creating/Changing Bugs Myk Melez enter_bug.cgi, post_bug.cgi, show_bug.cgi, process_bug.cgi Documentation Matthew Barnsons the docs/ directory Email Jake Steenhagen processmail and outgoing email generated by Bugzilla Installation Zach Lipton checksetup.pl and whatever else it evolves into Query/Bug List Dawn Endico query.cgi, buglist.cgi Reporting/Charting Gervase Markham reports.cgi User Accounts Myk Melez userprefs.cgi, anything with logging in, creating accounts, etc. User Interface Myk Melez general issues regarding the UI, cosmetic issues, HTML templates, etc. This component layout was chosen mostly based on what portions of Bugzilla the core developers were working on the most, so components are mostly tied to the available owners, except when the things they were working on did not logically fit together (which is why some people own more than one component). What this also means is that when we do the product changeover, there will be a LOT of bugmail going out as bugs are moved into their proper components. So if you have yourself CCed on a lot of bugs, be prepared for the onslaught. Any discussion of this issue should be directed to the netscape.public.mozilla.webtools newsgroup (or [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you get it via email).
