And here's my limited knowledge of the stuff:

You can compose plain-text mail in the HTML editor, but if you have HTML
mail disabled in prefs, as I do, it's actually a different composer that
uses basically the same widgets and functions as form textareas. It
actually makes some sense, since I often see similar quirks in both.

One of us is closer to the truth than the other. Wonder which one? :)
