Other than Mozilla's most recent nightly, has at least a thousand bug
fixes / improvements over Netscape 6.1. I still need Communicator 4.7.8
for Banking.
Also Netscape 6.1 Macintosh hijacks all files and Internet Control
panelsettings (Mime types file associations) from Communicator. This
messes with preferences in both applications, corrupting both.
This is caused on the Mac by Netscape 6 using the identical(carbon copy
of) type and creator codes on the Mac, for both N6 and Communicator.
(You'd think the Mac oders would have caught this by now, duhhhh.)
So in order to use netscape 6 and Communicator on same system requires
that I either reformat my hard drive with two partitions. (Get real when
I have 4 gb bytes of applications/files or more. How am i supposed to do
that unless I buy an additiona Hard Drive.) ORrrrrrrrr ...... I must
buy an additional Hard Drive.
Mozilla doesn't have the problem because the Moz people were smart
enough to use a different type and creator code.
PC people don't have this problem because type and creator codes don't
exist. They exist on Mac so that Mac people don't have to futz around
looking for an appropriate program to open a file. You double click on
the document and the Application opens automatically, or you get a list
of appropriate Applications to use. I haven't delt with windows since
3.1.1 days all that much, but then you opened the application first,
then located the desired file to work on.
So tha'ts my reason to use Moz to test. I will continue to use Moz until
the netscape Champions say that N6 is ready for everyday use. juding
from the progress and the number of everyday features either missing or
not turned on I'd say that will be at least another three years at the earliest.
