This is not related to Mozilla, but I feel that it affects all web developers.
The World Wide Web Consortium has always been promoting free and open standards. But now they are considering to recommend standards that are based on patented technologies, meaning that implementers would have to pay royalties to the companies that owns the patents! That would effectively make it impossible for open source software such as Mozilla to implement the standards. We might end up with MSIE being the most standards-compliant browser!!!
