In desperation, largely because I have a Java script in my personal home page that I wanted to be able to view, I eventually resulted to the following drastic measures, which seem to be working (on Win 98):
In Control Panel, I uninstalled Mozilla and all versions of Java listed. Then I manually deleted all Java and Mozilla folders on all hard drives. Then I rebooted, ran Regclean (just in case), and rebooted again. Then I Installed Mozilla from a previously downloaded file (Using the one for Win98) and Java 1.3.1_01. Java loaded in my Plugin list from then on.
