I have no idea whether it is related, but I have twice recently (and I seem to recall previous times also) had the header pane disappear without my doing anything, most recently with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011031. Grabbing the bar on the boundary between the message and subject areas and moving it slightly made the pane reappear. -- My real email is akamail.com@dclark (or something like that).
