hi

testers may have noticed that past builds would grind to a near slow
halt, but stay afloat when visiting the w3c CSS homepage:

http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/

The current win32 build [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US;
rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011108] crashes.

I have also noticed that fixed elements result in a heavy performance
hit WRT scrolling. Two examples are:

- floating menus [such as that found at the CSS homepage], and

- fixed backgrounds

Both Opera and IE fare much better when rendering pages containing
these. Of course, I'm not sure if IE 5.x supports the first one well.

Any insights as to why this is so?

Thanks
Jason
