Thanks for your reply. I don't think I will upgrade at this time, as installing a new compiler is not something I want to mess with right now. (like to do my bit for open source but I'll confine that to helping on NG's in this instance.) But I have noted that Texstar posted on the a.o.l.mandrake NG that he has had problems compiling it as well. (with different errors). The binary for 0.9.7 I just downloaded runs like a dream- loads in 5 secs (as fast as konqueror).
