Mozilla is an old name. It was taken from reference to Mosaic of which Netscape Navigator, then Communicator was created from. (it was used as a research code name.
Several years agi when it was decided to create an open Source New replacement for Communicator; the Project was given the Name Mozilla. The use of Mozilla in IE is a holdover from the days when IE first got started Naviagtor/Communicator was the only game in town. So IE created a way to be compatible with Navigator/Communicator by identifying itself as Mozilla. john hindmarsh wrote: > > i can only asume somone is taking on the role of mr rsole > > Jens Schlatter wrote: > > >Why is it microsoft allowed to use the signature "mozilla" in their > >internet explorer? > >Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98) > > > >Jens > > > >Fup2 netscape.public.mozilla.license > > -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phillip M.
