I've read that Doctypes determine whether or not Mozilla goes into quirks mode. I went to this site that explains it:
http://www.hut.fi/u/hsivonen/doctype I've found that this web page: http://www.askmen.com/jokes/index.html uses: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Draft//EN"> The page is displaying poorly but it appears to be fixed by changing to: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> I just saved to my hard drive and replaced the doctype. To me this implies that the second way is going into quirks mode and the first isn't. It would seem to me that wouldn't be the desired or expected behaviour. I would expect they should both go into quirks mode. This poor display problem is recent on this site. I don't know if they have been changing their doctypes but I would suspect not based on the fact they are using a draft doctype. The sites main page displays ok but it doesn't use a doctype. I didn't see any bugs on this but then I'm not claiming to be proficient at searching in bugzilla. I would think this is a bug in the doctype handling but also for evangelism. I have not contacted the site about this but I would be willing to. -- ------------------------------------------------------ -- Randy Slemko [EMAIL PROTECTED]
