I am running 0.9.6 on a P120 with 128MBs of RAM and Win95, and I
had previously used 0.9.3. The tabbed browsing was a boon to me, as
I like opening new windows, and this was painfully slow with either
version.

The preferences and history windows are almost unusable in both
versions I've used, as they take way too long to load.

However, I know I'm on pretty old hardware and have seen it on
other machines (including my P500 NT4WS box with 256MBs), and know
it's just fine with reasonable hardware.

If it's slows on a P550 with 320MBs of RAM, something's not right,
but I doubt the problem is with Mozilla.
