I recently tried installing Netscape Communicator 4.79 in a computer
running Windows 95. The installation process went fine, but every time I
run Netscape, I get the error message box that reads "Directory d:\temp
does not exist". I clicked Ok and everything seemed to be fine until I
tried using the Publish option in the Composer. Then, I couldn't upload
the page I created with the Composer, because I got the following
message: "Error: temporary directory d:\temp does not exist. Please
enter a new directory in the preferences box." The problem here is that
the computer doesn't have a d: drive. And I can't find the field where I
should correct this problem in the Preferences box (in the Edit menu). I
came to the conclusion that the problem can't be fixed via the
Preferences box. I found someone who had had a similar problem, saying
that the Autoexec.bat file should be edited, to make sure that 'set
temp' exists and is correct. for example, to add 'set temp=c:\tmp' and
to make sure the directory \tmp exists. However, I don't want to play
with the Autoexec file before confirming that this will take care of the
problem.
Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Carlo.
