The difference is that you choose which Webpages you visit.
If images are included in an email message, the server knows exactly 
that the email has been read. If done correctly, it allows to identify 
which email address did read the mail. Knowing that Mail is read makes 
an Email Address more valuable for Spammers.

And you can't even delete a message in Mozilla without having it displayed.
