It probably happened in the installation process, I know that mozilla 
doesn't do that when it installs, but anyway. (assuming you're in windows)

1. Open up any folder window
2. Click Tools (could be different in windows9x)
3. Click Folder Options...
4. Click File Types
5. find .jpg/.jpeg on the list of file types
6. Change the default program association. This can be different 
depending on which version of windows you're using, but for Windows 2000:
7. Click the change button right next to the opens with...
8. pick which program you want to associate the filetype with
9. Hit OK, OK until you're out.
