The subject line says most of it and I am completely stumped, so any
theory, no matter how whacko, would be appreciated. This problem has
persisted since the 0.9.6 milestone and still applies today with 0.9.8.
To put it simply, I cannot install Mozilla. The steps I try are:

(1) Delete every reference to Mozilla in all folders. Do a Scandisk and
Defrag.

(2) Download any Mozilla build.

(3) Double click the .exe file.

(4) The extraction takes place normally and I am offered the chance to
import an existing profile.

(5)(a) If I import the profile, Mozilla builds the appropriate
subdirectories, imports the 4.79 data and attempts to connect. It
freezes with the progress bar at about 50%, requiring a power off -
computer totally unresponsive.

(5)(b) If I don't import the profile and create a new one, it starts
fine. But the very next time I attempt to start it, whether I have
worked with it for a while or not, results in the same freeze as in
(5)(a).

(6) Curse.

(7) Read the Mozilla newsgroups under 4.79 and curse even more.

As I said, I don't even have a theory as to what could be causing this.
