I use a keyboard with a touchpad (Synaptics, not Cirque (thankfully)), so I tend to use Alt + <left-arrow> more than the Back button, but I've experienced something similar as well: there are times where I can't go back by using the keyboard shortcut but /have/ to use the Back button.
