I just noticed while casually reading the calendar newsgroup that apparently somebody has made Mozilla into a whole operating system... OEOne HomeBase.
I'm thinking about getting it, but I have a few questions. This is as close as I can tell to an OEOne newsgroup, and I appologize beforehand if my questions are unwanted here. 1. I understand that there's 100 MB of free server side storage space. What are the limits on here? That alone seems worth the $30 for the software. It's my understanding that OEOne syncs email, calendar data, etc. etc. etc. with their servers automatically. I'm assuming everything is secure. Would I be able to view/edit my calendar data, write email, etc. through this? 2. Theoretically and in speculation, would this Television application work with my existing ATI All-in-Wonder, or would I need their TV Tuner card? 3. I'm a fairly advanced user of the web and internet, and a multimedia/web design major in college (albeit with little experience in Linux), would I find the features beyond server syncing and calendaring info useful? Or is this just more or less a kiddie toy for middle aged housewives who are looking to organize up their life a bit and 'try something new' with this new fangled 'Internet' (no offense to any middle-aged housewives reading this!) 4. What about Instant Messaging? I didn't see any mention on there. Does it offer support for AIM or MSN? Then again I guess I could put Netscape 6.2.1 on here (or 6.3 if it ever comes out) and use the AIM built in to that. Which brings me to another question... 5. Since it's built on Mozilla, how seamless would a Netscape 6.x installation go over? I've always liked the progress of the Mozilla milestones, but the Netscape releases just feel a bit more "polished" and easier to use. 6. About printing, does it have a decent monthly calendar view printout, or anything else for that matter? 7. How good is this word processor? There really isn't much info on it on their site. 8. Since it is based on Mozilla, are upgrades to Mozilla part of the 'automatic update' process? That is to ask, how would I update Mozilla from 0.9.8 to 0.9.9 and shortly 1.0? Are the nice and neat changes reflected in Mozilla also reflected in OEOne? 9. To be honest I guess the impression I got from this is that it does everything that I could ever hope Netscape/Mozilla would do. An integrated calendar/web browsing/email/contact management solution that I could use at more than one place. I guess the big question is, how many of you Moz people use it and find it useful? Like I said I know very little about Linux, and I don't really care to use command prompts or know exaxtly every number and label specifying everything in my computer, but I would like to have advanced customization features and programs (productivity and web design as well as full featured multimedia entertainment) available at my desire. 10. Does this have some sort of bootloader that I can configure to go between Windows and OEOne? (Again, I cite my lack of experience in Linux) 11. Hmmmm... any other things that I might need to or want to know in my position? I have a 2 gigabyte partition that I set aside for just such an occasion when I got Windows XP months ago, this seems to be a nice thing to fill it with. Hmmm... and finally... is this such a neat thing that I would wind up spacing off more for? Tee hee hee. I know this is a bunch of junk in issues to throw to a group that probably has no knowledge or care for what I'm talking about. Thanks SO very much for any questions you may be able to provide feedback on. Thanks again so much. Kenneth
