At least it is consistent with the way you write the date in "American 
English".
e.g.  March 14, 2002  >>> 03/14/2002

In Spanish, 14 de marzo de 2002. (note there are no commas, no capital 
letters and there is a period at the end)(the fourteenth of March of 
2002), therefore 14/3/2002
