[ Following the newsgroup renaming... ;-) ]

I think most people agree that www.mozilla.org is
not as well-organised
or
informative as it could be.

1) Many pages are not W3C HTML compliant (and I
think this includes the
wrapper)
2) It's very hard to find what you want
3) Important information is missing (web designer
docs, end-user docs)

This is because it has grown, rather organically,
over the last three
years. The problems with doing something serious
about it are as
follows:

1) It's a very "big" problem (336Mb, 30,716
files)
2) Different bits of the website are owned by
different people
3) Said people are very busy with other things
4) There is currently no grand plan as to how it
should look
5) It's in CVS, so it's not quite as easy as
moving a few files around

Doing something requires:

1) Working out _what_ to do - having a grand plan
2) Getting permission from all sorts of people to
mess with their pages
3) Doing it (labour-intensive)
4) Checking the results (even more
labour-intensive)
5) Cleaning up afterwards

I actually have no idea whether this _can_ be
done, let alone whether
there are enough people with enough time to do
it. However, it can't be
denied that it needs doing.

So, if this is something that matters to you,
look at this message as a
"call to arms." Head over to n.p.m.documentation,
and we'll throw ideas
around, and work out whether this can be done,
and how to do it.

I don't think anybody here should feel actually
pushed into volunteering for work, but at least
the * having a grand plan * part should be of our
interest, I'm not in documentation, so I'd thank
it if someone in both lists gave some
advancements here from time to time

Rodrigo, still wondering where are those last
three years of his life (and wondering if he'll
ever get his thesis done :)
