empty trash

In IE 5.5, the mail trash is emptied automatically when you exit
Outlook.  How can we set up 4.7X to do the same?  I tried to set  a
command in prefs., but not being a programmer, did not have any luck.
e.g.
user_pref("mail.cleanup_folders_on_exit", true);
user_pref("mail.cleanup_folders_trash", true);

NO luck.  Any suggestions?  I sent an email 2 weeks ago to sec
netscape
and received an acknowledgment of my message and nothing since.
