It would be a lot easier to just use the mozilla addrbook and mork code 
to parse the address books - is there a particular reason you don't want 
to do that? It would be easy to carve out the code that does the reading 
and writing of address books from the rest of the mozilla code base.

If that won't work, you could read through db/mork/src/morkParser.cpp. 
 From that, you should be able to figure out the answers to your questions.
