I just read through the bugzilla entries since I had similar
experiences. I was using NS 6 mail and wanted to compact my inbox (12M
at the time, approx 450 msgs). This didn't work (others compacted fine
if there have been only 0 msgs in it). I suspected subfolders to be the
culprit so I moved these out and tried again without success. Then I
started moving messages in a new folder in an attempt to recreate an
empty inbox and move them back. Moving didn't work quite well in either
direction, I needed to push the stop button to get it going again (many
times) when it was hanging somehow. Done that I found that the program
must have marked some messsages deleted, since they are still in the
file but they don't get indexed. I changed to M 0.7 but it doesn't
reindex them either although its much more usable than NS 6. All this
was under W2K.

Bye the way does the compact folder feature work at all with messages
still in the folder and is there a way to undelete messages in a file?

If all this sounds a bit too confusing don't hesitate to ask. With
specific questions I might be more precise.
