In my prefs, Language Encoding is set to Western, presumeably
ISO-8859-1. I've noticed that when I view a plain-text message written
in English composed with a 2-byte charset, such as Content-Type:
text/plain; charset=ISO-2022-JP (7-bit), the message is not displayed
using my preferred monospace Fixed Font, but a variable width font. It
sort of makes sense that a Japanese charset would not use the monospace
font, even though it was written in a 1-byte language. However, the
preferred fixed font size is applied, which, unfortunately, is
considerably smaller than the variable width font and can make reading
difficult.

So what I would like to know is...

Is there any way to override the display of these messages? I would
really prefer that all plain text messages use my preferred fixed font
and size, but I suppose there may be some technical issues with 1-byte
vs 2-byte charsets. So if this is not possible, is there a way to get
these messages to use the preferred variable width size along with the font?

Does this make sense?
