[EMAIL PROTECTED]">Hi All,
This afternoon, I landed fixes for bugs 60668 and 14301.
* bug 60668 - http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60668 - Get Messages should behave correctly for multiple accounts
New messages for the default account are automatically downloaded at startup. If the default accountis twisty closed, we open
the twisty and select the inbox and get new messages for that account. If the password is not already remebered via password
manager, user will get the password dialog. Imap and POP accounts have this feature now. Prior to this the user was propmted
with password dialog, only when the default account was Imap server and that account was twisty 'open' in the previous session.
With the fix we landed today, no such conditions are needed to get your messages automatically. Just start the app and you will
get messages for your default account automatically. If you want to know which one is your default account, open AccountManager
from Edit->Mail/NewsAccount Settings. The first account you see in the accounts window (to the left) is your default account.
* bug 14301 - http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14301 - "Log into this account at startup" doesn't work
With fix for this bug, now there is way to get new messages for all accounts you want, if you have multiple accounts, Imap or POP.
In order to enable this feature, you need to open the AccountManager window and then click on the Server sub-item of the
account you are interested in. On the righthand side panel, if that server is enabled with feature, you will find an option (a checkbox)
that says "Log onto this account at startup of Mail". If that box is checked, then that account will be in the list of accounts for which
new messages have to be downloaded automatically at the startup. User can check and uncheck this option based on his/her
preference. A point to note here is that, the twisty 'open' along with getting new messages will happen only for the default account.
For all other others, new messages will be downloaded and biff should show up on the account folder. This option to "log onto this
account at startup" is set to false as the part of fix for this bug. So, for all new accounts from now on, this checkbox is turned 'off'
by default.
Unfortunately, we had this UI to turn on the feature available before we could really hook the backend. But that was in the tree only
lately and all accounts that have been created from then until this fix has landed would have this option turned 'on' by default. So,
some of you may experience bunch of password dialogs if you have multiple accounts. Please go ahead and turn them off from the
AccountManager window for all the accounts you did not want feature. Sorry about that.
Questions and comments are welcome.
