Sure there are arguments. E.g. for some *recipients*, I have to select a 
special SMTP server. I could imaging that I need a special SMTP server, 
e.g. one that PGP signs/encrypts, for some *messages*.

Yeah, a dialog! Maybe, we can have a little chrismas tree with blinking 
lights as icon for it?

Seriously, a dialog should only be the very last resort IMO.
