Personally, I have had my own hiccups with mail/news. Having an actual
'crash' is an extremely rare thing for me; for me mail/news can often
hang mozilla - and the process becomes unresponsive. But a flat-out
crash? No. I have to say I feel sorry for you in that reguard.

I gotta say - this is a somewhat... unusual procedure. Not that it's
not useful to find related bugs. But seriously... how many people
change their theme every time they load Mozilla? Good job finding this
particular problem. Bugzilla needs a more bug reporting that actually
says something than 'mail crashes when I use Mozilla'
If you haven't already filed a Bugzilla report, do so. Bugs don't get
fixed if they don't get reported on Bugzilla. And, if you have the
patience, do more research into the bug's behavior; can you find that it
only works with a particular theme combination? Does it do the same
thing using POP as it does using IMAP? What POP and IMAP settings are
set? How are you changing the theme? (using the view... theme... menu,
or the preferences menu) - send in the TalkBack ID numbers, stack
traces, etc. Give the Mozilla people the info they need to track the
problem down.

What settings do you have for the 'about' dialog? Just the default, or
do you have it set to 'display about as a modal dialog'

What theme/chrome is this in? I don't see this problem using the
'Modern' theme.

Like I said - more info is helpful...
For instance - what kind of mail servers do you use (POP? IMAP?) How
many accounts? What combination of POP/IMAP do you have. Do you access
mail before it crashes? Can you access News? Both? Is there any
combination that crashes more often? Does it 'crash' and Mozilla quits,
or does it 'hang' and become unresponsive?
And, of course - did you mention your problems on Bugzilla?
I know exactly what you mean when you say you want to use Mozilla
full-time. I have had a more positive expierience than you have had,
but not without my own problems. Frankly, Mozilla is my favorite
mail/news reader, hands down; everything else doesn't even come close as
far as I'm concerned. Because I want Mozilla mail/news to succeed and
be perfect, I literally go hunting for ways to get it to crash, then I
do the most in-depth documenting I have time for (and know how to do).
Then, I report it to Bugzilla. My posts haven't been perfect, they are
usually missing information, or are dupes of other bugs. Thank god the
Netscape and Mozilla people are so tolerant of those of us still
learning the art of bug-squashing. If you don't know how to get
logs/talkback ID's/stack traces; ask - they'll help you out, as it's all
a team effort to build a better browser. Just don't expect to be placed
on a pedastal, and all is well.
Mozilla really does need more people who are good at posting bugs. I'm
trying to become better at it. You obviously took the time to figure
out procedures.
If you aren't already doing the Bugzilla thing, start. Mozilla will
never get to any kind of truly stable status without good bug exterminators.
