Stop button in Mail/News

Why is there no stop button in Mail/News. My smtp server was down the other 
day and I had to wait for Moz to time-out on the mail server before exiting 
the mail app. With NC 4.7x, I'd hit Stop, save the message in the Drafts 
folder and exit.
