Moz 0.9 - Win98: Can't get POP mail set up

Thought I'd try mozilla mail.  I set up the account, looks correct to 
me.  When I click "Get Messages for Account" nothing happens: the 
growler doesn't growl and nothing shows up.

Since I'm posting this, news works.

Where should I start to investigate this?  What does MozMail look for 
before it connects to my POP server?
