Actually, that brings to mind another issue - just though I'd ask if
this is a known bug/enhancement req. Some of us need to use VPN's from
time to time (but not always); and if we subscribe to a news server
behind the VPN, it always spins its wheels and eventually times out when
we aren't using it.
So the request is to match the mail preferences of both "Check for
messages at startup" and "download new messages every 'x' seconds". That
would allow us to check these groups manually instead of being forced to
timeout when we already know it isn't going to connect.
