As a Follow up for linux users,
ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.1_PR1/unix/linux22/xpi

to get the spellchk.xpi. Seems that running mozilla as root is necessary
for it to install itself. I tried unpacking spellchk.xpi manually and
put the files in /usr/local/mozilla/components/spellchecker, but it
didn't work (no spell check icon on the mail composer). After letting
root run mozilla and letting it do the install, the spell checker now
works. Right after the install, mozilla's spinning activity indicator
just kept going (hourglass prompt, too), but it seemed to install OK. I
just killed root mozilla and restarted as regular user.

This message spell checked by mozilla :-)
