Regarding clearing the results, there's talk in a couple of quick search about adding a button. It's currently not clear at all how to return to the folder. Regarding how to turn it off, all of the toolbars hide this way so if you think this is a ui problem, then it needs to be rethought throughout the product.
Anyway, I think this is a really cool feature. I've used it multiple times today already.
