Connection reset by peer

My mail download often stops partway and I get an error message,
"connection reset by peer." After a few attempts I get the mail, but
with a lot of duplicate messages. This happens frequently, regardless of
mail size or source. I've tried reinstalling Communicator but still have
same problem. Any ideas?
