I don't know for sure, but it may be that because you don't have a 
certificate it won't allow you to select anything.

There are plenty of places that offer certificates.  Some you pay for, 
some are free, some check your details better than the others.  I 
personally like and use free certificates from Thawte.  I like the way 
they do (most) things.  http://www.thawte.com

Yes, once you have a certificate, you can export it (or back it up in 
Mozilla talk).  That will create a PKCS#12 file (.p12) which you can then 
import (or restore) to your other browsers.  I do this because I share the 
same mail box from my work PC and my laptop.
